The Clock Strikes DADA (2025)
Mixed media: newspaper collage, paint, and a working clock on canvas. 43"x60"
Created for a Dada assignment in my Survey of Contemporary Art class, this piece began with materials I already owned. I repurposed a canvas I had built for an earlier painting, collected newspapers from my home, and incorporated a working clock from the livingroom.
Political figures, military imagery, and fragmented headlines overlap with bright color and exaggerated juxtapositions. Together, they create a noisy, sometimes absurd picture of power and contemporary news. The clock continues to run at the center, introducing real time into the surrounding collage. By bringing a familiar household materials into this composition, I transformed an abandoned painting into a new response to the world around me.
